I'm Drinking the (SUGAR FREE) Kool-Aid

A month with no blogs? Must mean I started working.

But don't worry anymore, I'm back & ready to treat you with my presense... Again. (That was a joke).

Anyway, like I said, I got a job.

Two actually.

1. Nannying for 4 kiddos. (More on that later).

2. Waitressing at Rendezvous, a wine bar & restaurant in Enumclaw :)

The craziest thing I've been doing this month, however is cutting sweets from my diet!

Now before you get too excited, I didn't cut sugar completely.

My name is Austin, & I have a sweet tooth.

October seems to be THE month of candy, pumpkin treats, & any other sweets you can think of.

So to keep my hand out of the cookie jar & away from the bite sized Snicker's Bars, I challenged myself to NO sweets with the exception of a little treat on Halloween.

To help keep me motivated, I read "The Year of No Sugar" by Eve O. Schaub.

Now these people are crazy (& really really awesome). The entire Schaub family (Husband, wife, & daughters 8 & 5) went an entire year cutting sugar completely.

(With the exception of one dessert per month).

Eve (yeah, we're on a first name basis now) started this kick first when she watched a YouTube video by Robert Lustig titled Sugar: The Bitter Truth

Which of course lead me to alway watching the video (& you should too ^^).

A jist of the video in very very lament terms is describing claiming sugar, primarily FRUCTOSE to be the cause of obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc.

So the Schaub family cut out all sugar (not just sweets).

This includes sugar in bread, condiments, drinks, EVERYTHING.

So what I'm saying... is I'm drinking the Kool-Aid.

M & I have even talked about going the sugar free life route.

But for this month I'm sticking with my NO SWEETS rule. & to be honest with you, I've been killing it.

I even made my favorite Pumpkin Muffins & didn't even TASTE the batter, frosting, or finished treat. Sigh.

(I was told by both a 5 year old & my 22 year old husband that they were the "best dessert I've ever tasted")

& 20 days in to the month, I'm barely even missing it. I plan to keep this challenge continuing (with one sweet treat a month) & I plan on increasing my discipline on cutting more & more sugar from each area of my foods.

But not wine. Never the wine.

What do you think?

Am I crazy? Or do you think you could do it?
